Amendments to Treaty and NotesAmendments to Annexes (incineration) of 12 October 1978 entered into force 11 March 1979 (Act 1981 No. 101; UKTS 1979 No. 71 (Cmnd. 7656); NZTS 1983 No. 4). Amendments to Annex I and II (list of substances) of 24 September 1980 entered into force 11 March 1981 (Act 1981 No. 101; UNTS 1263 p. 469; UKTS 1982 No. 20 (Cmnd. 8555)). Amendments to Annex III of 3 November 1989 entered into force 19 May 1990 (SD 40 p. 1 [SD4001]; UKTS 1995 No. 88 (Cm 3002)). Amendments (three sets) of 12 November 1993 (Annexes I and II: industrial waste; Annex I: incineration; Annexes I and II: radioactive wastes) entered into force 20 February 1994 (SD 41 p. 256 [SD4110]; UKTS 1995 No. 89 (Cm 3003), No. 90 (Cm 3004) and No. 91 (Cm 3005); UNTS 1775 p. 395). The 1993 Amendments on industrial waste which concerned, inter alia, phasing out sea disposal of industrial waste, were, by notification, accepted for Australia 15 February 1994, except in relation to jarosite waste where the option of dumping at sea was retained for a short period after the expiration of the 1 January 1996 deadline but in no circumstances would extend beyond 31 December 1997. The depositary interpreted the Australian declaration as non-acceptance of the Amendments. A second instrument of acceptance was deposited for Australia 24 August 1998, with effect from that date (UKTS 1999 No. 17 (Cm 4297)). See also Protocol of 7 November 1996.
